Must Be Trusted

In today's game, everyone wants to be a Receiver. Its a position filled with freak athletes that have the ability to change the game at any second.

No matter if your game is based on speed, physicality or something in between, all Receivers must do one thing well; catch the ball consistently. The Receiver that has the Coach and Quarterback's trust to make the catch is going to get the ball thrown their way when the game is on the line.

Here are a few things Receivers can do to make sure they make the play when their number is called.

Practice Without Gloves

Receiver gloves make catching the ball significantly easier, hence why almost every Receiver wears them today.

One technique to improve your catching skills is to practice each day without gloves. This will force you to have stronger hands and look the ball in every single time. Without the forgiveness that gloves provide, you'll be forced to perfect the fundamentals of catching the ball and will see a major improvement.

This will feel uncomfortable at first if you're used to wearing gloves, but it will be well worth it when its game-time and you break out a fresh pair of stickies.

Your confidence will be through the roof and you'll be in a much better position to make big plays. If you really want to get better, ignore the idea that the no glove look isn't as sharp and do what it takes to take your game to the next level.

Increase Dexterity In Your Hands

A Receiver's greatest tool is his hands. Although there isn't much you can do to increase the size of your hands, you can work on improving the dexterity or flexibility of your hands every day.

Consistently bending your fingers and violently massaging the webbing between them will work wonders in improving hand dexterity. Receivers with better hand dexterity are able to absorb the football with their hands more easily which leads to an increased ability to make tough catches.

This is an exercise that the Apex staff learned directly from NFL Hall of Famer Cris Carter. Check out the video below to see CC teaching DeAndre Hopkins the safe way to improve hand dexterity.

Catch Eggs

Soft hands are key to being a top Receiver. One way to learn how to have soft hands is to have someone toss you eggs to catch. This exercise can get messy so make sure to do it somewhere that this is acceptable. Initially, have a partner toss the eggs gently. If your hands are too stiff, the eggs will break.

As you get more comfortable, increase the speed of the eggs and continue to focus on having soft hands so the egg doesn't break. Eventually, replace the eggs with a football and continue to focus on having soft hands to make the catches. If done consistently, this exercise will go a long way towards improving your catching ability.
